THE ETERNAL VOICE OF HAITI

Montreal-based vocalist and bandleader Vox Sambou from Haiti channels the spirit of Fela Kuti and Bob Marley, making uplifting, joyful, charged music that combines Afrobeat, funk, reggae, hip-hop and rhythms from all across the African diaspora.

Vox Sambou is an MC, poet, and multilingual performer, fluent in Haitian, French, English, Spanish, and Portuguese. He co-founded the hip-hop collective Nomadic Massive. With a focus on social issues, Sambou's music spreads joy and optimism. He has performed worldwide and is renowned for his engaging live shows.

As a charismatic showman and committed activist, Sambou effortlessly captivates audiences with infectious, memorable melodies and relentless rhythms filled with energy, passion, love, and artistic brilliance. His music tackles topics such as unity and solidarity, reflecting his dedication to social change.

His recently released fourth solo album, "We Must Unite" (2023) showcases his unique sound and is a tribute to the women and men of Haiti, shedding light on their resilience and contributions in various societies such as Haiti, Brazil, Chile, North America, and Africa. It is a fusion of traditional Haitian rhythms and rhythms of Candomblé from Brazil within his own sound rooted in hip-hop, reggae, and Afrobeat.

Vox Sambou has performed at prestigious events worldwide, including Jazzahead in Bremen, Germany, Zomer Van Antwerpen Festival in Belgium, and Huvila Tent Festival in Helsinki, where he opened for Calypso Rose. In North America, he has graced stages at DC Jazz Fest, The Kennedy Center, Festival International de Jazz de Montreal, Rio-das-Ostras Jazz Festival in Brazil, Womad Chile, and Circulart in Colombia. In addition to his music career, Sambou has dedicated 15 years to directing a youth community center in Montreal's Côte-des-Neiges. As a passionate advocate, he denounces injustices and promotes solidarity, uplifting the rich heritage of Haiti through his art.
