Kyekyeku & Super Opong Stars is a remarkable band led by Ghanaian ‘singer, songwriter and fabulous guitarist’- BBC Global Beat Kyekyeku (Che-che-ku), whose music explores Ghana’s folk Palmwine,Highlife and fusions. He sat at the foot of some of Ghana’s iconic and adored musicians honing his craft, calling on greats such as Ebo Taylor, Koo Nimo, Ambolley and The African Brothers Band as some of his mentors and inspiration.

A decade ago, Kyekyeku began writing music, taking the project on a rediscovery of the country’s live music culture; then nearly forgotten about through years of collapse and neglect of the secular live scene. In the process, he went on to perform at some of the world’s most renowned venues and festivals including  Montreux Jazz Festival , Latitude Festival (UK), Sauti Za Busara (Zanzibar), Pirineos Sur (Spain) and New Morning (France) etc, ushering in a new love for live music and touring among younger Ghanaian musicians.

With 3 album releases, Kyekyeku’s music is an adorable patchwork of native styles, and influences knitted together into a beautiful tapestry that at times presents itself as a high burst of propulsion or subtle currents sumptuously brewed together into a beautiful musical experience.
